May Murmurs

I think every time I go to write something here, I am amazed at how quickly time is flying. It is already May! In the past couple of weeks, I have conducted the Pre-Season Farmers Market trainings around the region, getting market managers and vendors ready for the upcoming farmers market season.

Todd Schmit came up from Cornell to present the results of 2008 Farmers Market Surveys we conducted across the region last summer. There is still some number crunching to do but the preliminary results are out and we shared those with market managers and vendors across the region. This data will be useful for markets to utilize when assessing what they as a market can do better. As well there were some surprises in the data as well as some reinforcements. What this blog for information on when this data will be posted on the Local Foods page of theNNY Ag Development Program website.

Upcoming in June, Katherine & I will be visiting all the counties in the region to meet with county governments and present the results of 2008 North Country Regional Foods Initiative project results. For the results of this project visit: www.nnyregionallocalfoods.org

This week I will be writing the final report for the Farmers Market project so we can get that wrapped up. As well I will be speaking to the Alterurian Group, which is a group of professional women who meet regularly to explore and discuss a specific topic. This year, their topic was the environment. They have asked me to speak on Local Food and the environment. It should be a good time.

Until Next time
take care
Bernadette
