September is coming closer every day! Hmmm that was a very thought provoking statement wasn’t it. But the great thing about September, besides being the month of my birth, is that a wonderful bounty seems to surround us. Throughout the summer we have been able to enjoy locally grown fruits and vegetables, but September seems to be when even more items are peaking, or those things we have waited all season to ripen are! Pumpkins, watermelon, apples, fall squash are ripening too! If you wanted to eat corn for 3 meals a day you probably could pull it off in September.
This is also the month of festivals here in Franklin County. We have some great festivals taking place in and around the county for people to enjoy and celebrate the harvest with their neighbors.
HARVEST FESTIVAL
We start with Saturday September 11th, with the Second annual Harvest Festival at the Franklin County Fairgrounds in Malone, NY. This Festival is sponsored by the Malone Chamber of Commerce, Cornell Cooperative Extension Franklin County and Adirondack Harvest. We have a great line up of activities from wool spinning demonstrations, Fall Fun Show put on the 4-H Equine program, Wagon Rides, a farmers market where you can pick up a bag of freshly made maple cotton candy, some burgers for your grill or take home some farm fresh vegetables. Enjoy a slice of apple pie, or site and have a bit of locally made ice cream. We’ve got all this for all ages at the Harvest Festival on Saturday September 11th. Admission: $1 (more…)
